PREGNANCY
How does pregnancy effect my oral health?
Oral health is probably the last thing on your mind if you are pregnant, but it is actually very
important to care for your mouth while pregnant. Changing hormone levels during pregnancy
can cause gums to easily bleed when in contact with the bacteria in plaque, a condition known as
pregnancy gingivitis, switching to a soft floss and soft bristled toothbrush can help.
Other conditions to look out for include morning sickness and
possible reflux. When possible, use mouthwash to rinse your mouth out or brush after experiencing these conditions to help regulate the effect of the acidity in your mouth.
As always, it’s import to talk to your local dentist on what to expect with your oral
health while pregnant based on your specific condition.
