Why Your Dentist Loves Durham’s Local Yogurt
On W. Chapel Hill St., as the road pitches upward, right across from the Durham Co-Op Market, in the repurposed 1950’s Original Reves Gulf Gas Station, you’ll find Durham’s Local Yogurt. Owner Leah Bergman first opened Local Yogurt or “LoYo” in Durham in 2009, serving fresh yogurt and frozen yogurt. There’s a wide range of flavors from Pomegranate Raspberry Sorbet to Plain Tart, but they all have one thing in common: they are both good and good for you. You’ll also spot their “LoYo on the Go” truck at special events throughout Durham.
And, not only is LoYo a proud member of the Durham Living Wage Project, they have implemented dedicated efforts to divert food waste from landfills, use compostable products, and participate in the Food FWD initiative.
There is lots to love, plus one more – it turns out that according to recent studies yogurt can possibly reduce incidents of bad breath. Researchers found that a diet including two 3.0-oz servings of plain, sugarless yogurt each day may attack bacteria that live on your tongue. Those who ate yogurt showed an 80% decrease in their levels of hydrogen sulfide byproducts and thus had a lower incidence of bad breath.
Quick, go grab a cup from LoYo, they’re open 7 days a week from 12:30 to 9pm.
